Breaking: NPFL in fresh mess as armed Policemen take over LMC office

The headquarters of the League Management Company (LMC), the body responsible for administering the country’s apex domestic league affairs – the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) has been overtaken by the presence of Police operatives on Thursday September 15, 2022.

The head office is located in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital, and Blueprint gathered that the police personnel arrived the office in trucks on the orders of a government agency known as Bureau of Public Enterprise.

Our Correspondent sighted up to 20 Policemen fully armed in front of the LMC office on Thursday morning.

A senior government official and the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Ismaila Abubakar, had last Friday September 9 announced the withdrawal of the government’s recognition of the LMC.

He had explained that the decision was taken in view of the several unpleasant incidents regarding the management of the football league.

The government also directed the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to set up an Interim Management Committee (IMC) to run the league pending the time the clubs will run it themselves.
