Breaking: Ozil ruled out of Liverpool clash

Mesut Ozil is out of the Arsenal squad to face Liverpool because he is suffering with knee pain.

The rest of Unai Emery’s side arrived in Liverpool ahead of their clash against Jurgen Klopp’s men – but the German was missing after not travelling with the team despite taking part in training.

League leaders Liverpool are unbeaten in their 19 games this season while Arsenal come into the game fifth – two points behind Chelsea in fourth.

Arsenal drew to Brighton away on Wednesday with midfielder Ozil coming off for Alex Iwobi at half-time.

Pictures of the Arsenal team arriving in Liverpool did not show Ozil present – but it is not clear whether the 30 year-old is injured.

Arsenal boss Unai Emery has tipped Liverpool to replicate the Gunners Invincibles team who won the Premier League title undefeated in 2004.

In 2016 Emery guided Seville to a Europa League trophy where they beat Liverpool 3-1 in the final.

Despite Emery getting the better of Jurgen Klopp’s side that night, the Gunners boss said he learnt a lot from playing Liverpool.

Emery said: “We played three years ago in the Europa League final with Sevilla against Liverpool and we beat them.

“But look at the process and it’s a very good example for us. The progression is clear: they were out of the Champions League and they are an example for us at Arsenal now.

“We need to be demanding of ourselves but we need time and patience is very important.”

Arsenal drew 1-1 against Liverpool at the Emirates in November with the Alexandre Lacazette’s goal cancelling out James Milner’s earlier strike.

Despite coming from behind Arsenal were the more dominant side and could easily have taken all three points that night.
