Breaking: Police arrests defying traders in Jos

Men of the Nigerian police in Jos the Plateau state Thursday, arrested traders that allegedly defied government directive to closed markets and businesses.

Blueprint gathered that they were arrested around terminus market and other areas around Janta Apata.

Governor Simon Lalong had Tuesday  in a statewide broadcast directed the closure of markets,  directing security agencies to begin enforcement by arresting  anyone found violating the orders should be arrested.

“Should the situation continue this way, we shall not hesitate to impose a complete lockdown in order to save the lives of our people,” he added.

Blueprint also gathered that the police have been allegedly, “collecting five thousands naira,” to release some of the offenders.

Our correspondent learnt that some of those arrested were however, driven in the police Toyota Hilux van, to the ‘C’ division of the police command.

When contacted for comments, the police spokesman Plateau state command, ASP Ubah Ogaba, said their men have been cautioned not to extort of collect money from any suspect.

“Our men were cautioned not to do those things, because it against the ethics or our profession,” he said.
