Breaking: Police confirm abduction of private varsity students in Kaduna

Kaduna state Police is set to conduct headcount of students of Greenfield University, Kaduna in conjunction with the school management to ascertain the number of students kidnapped by gunmen Tuesday night. 

Gunmen attacked the University along Abuja – Kaduna highway around 10:30pm on Tuesday night, while kidnapping an unknown number of students of the institution. 

Kaduna state Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Muhammad Jalige, while confirming the incident, said the exact number of abducted students is yet to be known. 

He said they will carry out a headcount of the student to ascertain the identity and number of the missing abducted.

Speaking to Blueprint, ASP Jalige said, “yes the Greenfield University was attacked yesterday (Tuesday) night and unknown number of students were kidnapped. 

“Immediately we got information of the attack, we mobilised our men to the school with the military and they are currently on the trail of the gunmen. 

“We are yet to ascertain the number of students that were kidnapped. We don’t know how many students are in the male and female hostels, we will liaise with the school authority to carryout a headcount to determine the number of students in the school and ascertain the number of students kidnapped.”

Jalige, who did not confirm if there was any casualty or if any of the students or staff of the school was shot, said the police would update the public on the number of students abducted as soon as it is confirmed.

The latest abduction which comes barely 40 days after 39 students of the Federal College of Forestry Mechanisation, Afaka, Kaduna were kidnapped was the fourth of abduction targeted at schools in Kaduna state in the last three months. 

While the attack on Government Science School, Ikara was foiled by security agencies, the students of Federal College of Forestry Mechanisation, Afaka were not so lucky. 

Though 10 of them have been released, 29 students are still in captivity. Then Rema Primary School in Birnin Gwari local government was attacked with three teachers whisked away by gunmen.
