Breaking: Police in gun battle with bandits, nab 5 as gunmen kidnap wives, children in Zaria (Pictures)

Two house wives and children have been kidnapped by gunmen at Kofar Kuyambana low cost in Zaria local government area of Kaduna state.

A resident in the area, Mallam Garba Jumare, told Blueprint correspondent that the kidnappers invaded the area and attacked a house of Customs officer around 10pm on Sunday.

He said the kidnappers whisked away the Customs officer’s wife, identified as Maria Bala Ibrahim, along side her three children but they abandoned the children on the way and fled with the mother.

The witness confirmed that the bandits attacked another house in the neighbourhood where they kidnapped another woman, Hulera Haruna.

Mallam Jumare further told Blueprint that during a gun battle between the kidnappers and Police, about five Almajiris were hit by stray bullet, and are already receiving medical attention at a nearby private health facility at the neighbourhood of the scene.

“The Police and men of KADVIS have really tried. They showed that they are professionals. We must thank them,” he said.

Blueprint reports that during the gun battle, two of the bandits were arrested in the night while three were arrested in the early hours of Monday.

Police authorities are yet to make any official statement.
