Breaking: Political party moves to stop Buhari from second term inauguration as Ribadu storms tribunal

A relatively unpopular political party, Hope Democratic Party (HDP), has filed a motion, asking the presidential election tribunal to restrain President Muhammadu Buhari from presenting himself to be sworn-in on May 29, 2019.

The party is also seeking an order restraining the Chief Justice of Nigeria from swearing-in, administering the oath of office and oath of allegiance to the president on May 29th 2019.

In a motion on notice made available to journalists on Tuesday, HDP filed the motion on 6 grounds pursuant to section one subsection 2 of the 1999 constitution as amended and under the jurisdiction of the tribunal.

Meanwhile, the first ever Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Mr. Nuhu Ribadu, has arrived Tuesday’s proceedings of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal in Abuja.

There are three other petitions filed by other political parties, including the major opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party and its presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.

The President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa, leads the five-man bench of the tribunal.
