Breaking: Public pry schools begin indefinite strike in Oyo

With few days to the expiration of the tenure of Governor Abiola Ajimobi 8 years tenure in Oyo state,  primary school teachers across the state on Monday morning embarked on an indefinite strike

According to the state Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Mr Samson Adedoyin, the indefinite strike was as a result of the delay in payment of salaries of public primary school teachers and failure of the state government to meet other requests of the teachers.

The Oyo state NIT Chairman said that there was no other option for the union than to order the strike as the state government could not meet most of the demands of the union members.

As at 8am, all the public primary schools in the state were shut with the striking teachers sending back the pupils from their various schools.

In most of the public primary schools visited by our Correspondent particularly in Mokola, Oniyanrin, Aperin, Mosfala, Agodi NTA area, Okepadre, Isale Ijebu, Bode and Molete , the primary schools in the area were shut with the pupils heading back home

However, the NUT Chairman has vowed that the union is not ready to called off the strike until the government meet the demands of primary school teachers in the state.

“It is when the government is ready to meet our demands. It all depends on the government. If the government is ready to meet our demands, we are ready to suspend the strike”. he said
