Breaking: Reps constitute special committee on security

A special advisory committee has been constituted by the House of Representatives, with the mandate to make certain recommendations to President Muhammadu Buhari on how to address the nation’s lingering security challenges.

This came after a closed door session, lasting about 30 minutes before the commencement of plenary on Wednesday.

Speaker of the House, Femi Gbajabiamila, who announced the committee disclosed that during the closed door session, Majority Leader, Alhassan Doguwa, had raised concerns over the security challenges facing the nation, culminating in a resolution to raise the committee.

According to him, the committee which have all 10 principal officers of the House as members, and a select group of other lawmakers across the states will be sitting for the next three to four weeks to brainstorm, “and come up with suggestions, and recommendations to the executive arm of the federal government”.

He explained that Initial meeting of the panel will be announced in the next couple of days, for work to start earnestly after which it will present its position, “for onward transmission to the president”.
