Breaking: Scores feared dead as gunmen attack herdsmen

At least, 27 dead bodies of Fulani pastoralists have been recovered after an attacked allegedly by Tiv gunmen at Nasarawa, Benue boarder in Rukubi community of Doma local government area of Nasarawa state.

The community was said to have come under attack by suspected Tiv gunmen on Tuesday night between 8pm and 9:30 pm, where scores of cows were also recovered as the result of the unfortunate attacked.

Reacting to the incident on Wednesday in Lafia, Governor Abdullahi Sule confirmed the incident.

The governor who spoke through his deputy Dr. Emmanuel Akabe, when he visited the area maintained that the security agents have been put in place to curtail any further occurrence.

Sule assured of government commitment to unreval the perpetrators of such act so as to face the full wrath of the law. He said those behind the killing of Fulani pastoralists would not go caught free.

His words: “We are here on behalf of the state governor to sympathise with the Fulani people across the state over the killings of your people. I want to assure you of government commitment to unreval the perpetrators of such act so as to face the full wrath of the law.” 

Also speaking, the Nasarawa state Police command said the state government has confirmed that 27 fulani pastoralists were allegedly killed by yet to be identified persons.

Commissioner of Police, Baba Maiyaki who spoke through the commnad’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Rahman Nansel, called on the residents of the area not to take law into their hands as government was on top of the situation and investigation is ongoing to get to root cause of the incident.

The deputy governor was in company of CP Baba, Emir of Lafia, Sidi Bage Rtd, Andoma of Doma, and authorities of Doma local government area.

He joined the family members of the deceased for the mass burial in Doma, the headquarters of Doma local government area of Nasarawa state.
