Breaking: Suicide bomber blows self up, resident near Adamawa Church

Two suicide bomber on Sunday morning attacked Shuwa community in Madagali Local Government Area of Adamawa State, killing himself and a resident, a witness said.

The attack occurred at about 7.30 a.m. near a village church at about the time residents were going for their Sunday service.

A local vigilante who asked not to be named for safety reasons via phone said: “The suicide bombers seems to be aiming to attack a church in the village but ended up blowing themselves not far away from the church.’’

When contacted, the police spokesman, Othman Abubakar, confirmed the incident: “Yes, there was suicide attack in Shuwa this morning but we yet to get details for now.’’

Also spokesman of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in the state, Suleiman Baba said: “Reports reaching us said that three suspected Boko Haram suicide bombers  disguised as worshippers  had attempted to enter a catholic church in Shuwa this early morning around 7 am, but they couldn’t get in through the church’s clinic, but they ended up blowing themselves, two killed instantly while the other ran away.’’

Shuwa is about 30km from Madagali, the headquarters of the local government.

Madagali is the home town of the governorship candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ahmadu Fintiri, who was in his country home on Saturday to cast his vote.

Adamawa is one of the states mostly affected by the Boko Haram insurgency in Northern Nigeria. The attacks in Adamawa have reduced compared to those of neighbouring Borno State.
