Breaking: Uzodimma summons emergency security meeting as fear grip Imo residents, Abia govt on red alert, imposes curfew

Imo state Governor Hope Uzodimma has summoned heads of the security agencies in the state to a closed door meeting.

The emergency meeting Blueprint learnt is currently taking place inside the Government House in Owerri, following attacks on police headquarters and Owerri Correctional Centre by gunmen in the early hours of Monday.

Before the meeting, security had already been en beefed up within and around the Government House.

Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Declan Emelumba, who confirmed the security meeting said the governor will address residents in a state wide broadcast after.

Meanwhile, Abia state governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, has imposed a curfew in Aba and Umuahia metropolis between 10pm and 6am daily from Monday, April 5 till further notice.

The decision, according to the government, was as a result of security reports received from multiple sources.

The state Commissioner for Information, John Kalu, on Monday said security agencies in the state had been directed to enforce compliance with the governor’s directive to improve security in the state.

However, workers on essential services are exempted but will be required to show their identification cards to security agents.
