Breaking: Varsity shut down as flood kills students, many missing

Student of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi have been reportedly killed after a bridge linking the University collapsed Monday night.

As a result, the school has shut down for two weeks.

In a circular signed by the Registrar of the university, Dr AG Hassan, directed the students to vacate the university’s campuses with an immediate effect from Tuesday August 6, 2019.

According to Mr Hassan, the students are to resume on Monday, August 19.

The Vice-Chancellor, therefore, commiserated with parents, SUG students and the university community over the sad event.

The circular read: “Following the unfortunate incident (a flood disaster) on Monday 15 August 2019, the Senate, at an emergency meeting on Tuesday, 6th August 2019 approved a break with effect from Tuesday 6th August to 18th August, 2019.

“All students are, therefore, required to vacate the campuses with immediate effect from today, 6th August, 2019. It should be noted that academic activities resume with effect from Monday, 19th August, 2019.

“The Vice-Chancellor, on behalf of the Senate, commiserate with parents, SUG students and the university community over the sad event and prays that the Almighty God will protect the university from any unforeseen circumstances.”
