Breaking: Wike reverses self on Covid-19 lockdown in Rivers

Rivers Governor, Nyesom Wike, has swallowed back his words on the deadly coronavirus lockdown.

He has now asked churches not have more than 50 people at a gathering in the state.

A statement signed by the Rivers Commissioner for Information and Communication,Paulinus Nsirim, the state government said the decision to reverse the concession was taken after due consultations with eminent clergy men, well-meaning Nigerians and  civil society groups.

“For the avoidance of doubt, churches should stick to the 50 persons per service to maintain Social Distancing,” the Commissioner said.

There have been divergent opinion by stakeholders after Wike threw chruches and mosques’ doors open for all members to fellowship during the Easter period.

Despite his order two days ago, most church leaders in Rivers state openly asked their members to remain at home, and follow service online.
