Breaking: Zamfara shuts down over Coronavirus

Zamfara state government has closed down all ministries, departments, agencies, and Parastatals as part of efforts to complement federal government measures in containing the spread of coronavirus pandemic.

Governor Bello Muhammad Matawalle made this known in a statewide broadcast Monday on the danger of coronavirus pandemic in the state.

According to the governor, “As part of our drastic steps to ensure safety and control of spread of corona virus pandemic, we directed all workers to stay at home, except those rendering essential services like health, water and fire service.

“As we are approaching Ramadan, we are now in the season of marriage festivities which often draw huge crowds. Experts have informed us that the easiest way of transmitting the virus from one person to many is through gatherings, therefore my administration had considered the need to scale down our social gatherings for our safety and that of our families,” Matawalle stated.

Governor Matawalle expressed worries over the resurgence of banditry attacks in some parts of the state, saying his administration will continue with peace dialogue process.

“We have received reports of attacks by some unrepentant bandits who have not yet accepted the peace overtures of our administration in collaboration with their counterparts from Niger, Kaduna and Kebbi who were running away from the military onslaught. I am pleased to inform you that the military action being taken is yielding the desired results,” Matawalle said.
