The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), FCT Chapter, has called for organisational/structural support for breastfeeding mother’s at work place to enhance effective service delivery.
The Chairperson of NAWOJ FCT, Comrade Annah Daniel, made the call during a courtesy visit to the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Labour and Employment, Mrs Daju Kachallom, Friday in Abuja.
Comrade Daniel stressed the need for Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) as well as private organisations to provide creche/day care centres within their premises to help nursing mothers breastfeed optimally.
“..Very good that all organisations should have to establish a place where nursing mothers will go and breastfeed their babies while at work for effective service delivery because if their children should have problem, they too will have and that will affect the output at the work place,” she stated.
The Chairperson also solicited for partnership of the ministry in empowering women journalists in FCT through skills acquisition and in course training.
“Women and children are the most vulnerable segment of the society, however, when a woman is empowered and comfortable financially, the home front will be doing great, even at work place the result of effective service delivery would be achieved,” she added.
Responding, the Permanent Secretary, Mrs Kachallom, who commended the women journalists over their efforts to rise in the profession, urged them to always project the good image of the country rather than bad news.
“We need to let the world know what we are doing as a country, tell them so much the Federal government has done and are still doing; unfortunately, journalists of which l belong to,more often put bad news than the good news,even though is often said that bad news sell more than the good news “no hate speech,no fake news,let us work towards a better Nigeria,” she said.
Mrs Kachallom reiterated the commitment of federal government through its policies and social intervention scheme aimed at alleviating the plight of the citizens especially the vulnerable group in the country.
“Federal Ministry of Labour is not left behind, we know our mandate and are working steadily to achieve that,we need to take youths out of unemployment. We need to lift over 100 million Nigerians out of poverty, we are working to ensure we give dividends of democracy accrued to our citizens,” she further stated.
Highlight of the the visit was presentation of congratulatory card to the Permanent Secretary by the Chairperson of NAWOJ FCT.
