British High Commission okays NYC’s London independence day lecture

The British High  Commissioner to Nigeria, Catriona Laing CB, Tuesday, gave a nod to the Independence Day Lecture and inauguration of the Nigerian Youth Congress (NYC), United Kingdom chapter slated to hold at Hilton, London, on 1st of October.

The lecture is themed: “Nigerians ‘image and integrity in Diaspora; the place of the youths”, and all attendees are expected to put on green and white as the official dressing code for the event.

Laing CB spoke when the leadership of NYC led by the President and Chairman of the Governing Board, Blessing Akinlosotu, and Dr. Yakubu Shendam respectively visited the British High Commission in Abuja.

Laing CB, who was represented by the Commission’s Head of Political Section, Stuart Gardner, expressed satisfaction with the Nigerian Youths’ visionary prowls.

He lauded NYC for its timely initiative and passion to give the Nigerian Youths in the diaspora a face- lift from a different perspective.

Laing CB said the Embassy was readily available to accommodate more of the NYC’s activities and programmes.

“We consider the importance of the youth in the society and the benefits of your programme which is considered as a great sensitization and advocacy for the proper orientation of the youth in Diaspora.

“We strongly believe that your organisation will do more to rebuild the image of Nigerians in Diaspora”, he added.

Earlier, the leadership said its
event will also feature the inauguration of Ambassador Edward Olabode Majekodunmi, the United Kingdom Youth Ambassador.

The Chairman, NYC Governing Board, Dr. Yakubu Shendam, assured the  British High Commissioner of the Nigerian Youths’ goodwill and prayed that the relationship is profitable for both countries.

Also, the president of the body, Blessing Akinlosotu, thanked the High Commissioner for the warm reception accorded its team, saying that the acceptability of the Nigerian Youth by the Commission is a platform to do more.
