Broom at City Gate, Unity fountain: PDP tackles Buhari, APC

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), said the placement of the sculpture logo of All Progressives Congress (APC), broom, before a national monument like the City Gate was an indication that President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration has come to its wits end.

The ruling party, All Progressives Congress (APC) had erected sculptures of its symbol -broom at Unity Fountain and another at the City Gate, Abuja.

In their reactio, PDP National Publicity Secretary and Director Media and Publicity of its presidential campaign organization, Kola Ologbondiyan Saturday said: “Each time we say that President Muhammadu Buhari has a self-succession plan, I don’t know the interpretation that Nigerians give to it. We have had democracy since 1999 till date. That is 20 years. In PDP’s 16 years, we did everything possible to create that City Gate. I don’t think that anybody ever thought of it to go and put our symbol as a monument or as a statue at the City Gate.

“I just believe that this administration has come to their wits end. And they are doing everything possible to impose themselves into the consciousness of the people. But that will not stand. You can imagine that in an environment like the City Gate surrounded by IDPs that a government will go and spend millions of naira to erect a statue of a broom. It might interest you to even know that that is the first project in the life if this administration that they have conceptualised from the beginning and completed. So, all that President Buhari can deliver apart from posters and billboards around the city of Abuja is the statue of a broom. I think it is laughable.

“Unfortunately, it is a sympathetic metaphor on the life of our nation that we can get this low as a people. And the painful aspect of it is that by the time the peoples candidate (Atiku) is elected and he assumes office on May 29, we will gave to pay money again to dismantle that famished structure that they put there,” he said.
