Buhari appoints Tsoho FHC CJ, Bakwaph NICN president

President Muhammadu Buhari Tuesday asked the Senate to confirm the appointment of Justice J. T. Tsoho as the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court of Nigeria.

Buahari in the letter to the upper chamber dated October 28 and read at plenary by the President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, urged the lawmakers to grant his request, with the usual expeditious manner.

Lawan subsequently referred the communication to the Senate Committee on Judiciary and asked the panel to conclude the screening within one week. 

Buhari in a similar request forwarded the name of Justice Benedict Bakwaph to the Senate for confirmation as President of the National Industrial Court.

The Senate accordingly mandated its committee on judiciary to expeditiously treat the request and report back within one week

Confirmation of appointments of three new Resident Electoral Commissioners was also sought by the President in another letter dated October 28, 2019.

The REC whose confirmation were sought by the President; are Umar Mukhtar Gajiram from Borno state, Dr Alalibo Johnson from Bayelsa and Raheem Muideen Olalekan from Osun state.

Like the other requests, the Senate mandated its committee on INEC  to carry out the screening and report back to it.
