Buhari condoles with Nigerien president over boat mishap

President Muhammadu Buhari has commiserated with his Nigerien counterpart, Alhaji Muhammadu Yuossifu, over the boat mishap at the weekend in Lolo village in Bagudo local government area of Kebbi state that claimed no fewer than 40 lives.

Buhari, who conveyed his condolence through the Kebbi state Governor, Senator Atiku Abubakar Bagudu, said the people of Kebbi state and, indeed, the entire country were deeply touched by the carnage.

In a press statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mu’azu Abubakar Dakingari, yesterday said President Buhari called on all ECOWAS countries in charge of safety of water transportation to ensure adequate measures were put in place to regulate speeding and overloading by boat operators, as well as enforce the use of safety jackets.

The statement also quoted the Nigerien president as appreciating the government and people of Nigeria for the sympathy and love for his country during their trying times.

He also commended Nigerians living in the boarder communities for their rescue operations.

In a related development, the Kebbi state government has said it would collaborate with Dosso District in Niger Republic in the area of manufacturing agricultural implements to improve mechanised farming in the state.

The governor said he was highly impressed about the quality of manufactured implements designed to assist farmers to engage in mechanised farming.

He said the state government would send a delegation of the experts to collaborate with the manufacturing corporation for procurement agreement.
