Buhari decries poor funding of education

President Muhammadu Buhari has bemoaned poor funding of all levels of education in the country.
Buhari said in Abuja yesterday in an address presented on his behalf by the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Education, Sonny Echono, at the planetary session of the 68th National Council on Education (NCE).
Sequel to this, the President directed the Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, to urgently convene a summit on education to explore the various avenue of funding education in the country.
A statement signed by Director, Press and Public Relations, Mr.
Willie Bassy, stated that President Buhari, who described education as a tool for national development, also stated that funding was a sine-quanon for sustainable development.

Echono stated that the three tiers of government: federal, state and local government will be mobilized to efficiently support the funding of education in the country.
He noted that no government could single-handedly fund education and, therefore, called on stakeholders to join hands with the federal government to reduce the population of out-of-school children in the country.
Echono stressed that the directive of Mr.
President would form the fulcrum of discussion at the National Council on Education holding in Abuja this week.
Earlier in a welcome address, the Director, Educational Planning, Research and Development, Mrs.
Chioma Nwadei, observed that education is the key for the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
