Buhari gets invitation to attend G-7 confab

Ahead May 29 transition, the President-elect, General Muhammadu Buhari, has been offered the first international invitation to attend the popular world G-7 conference holding between May 8 and 9 in Berlin, Germany.
The countries made up of the G-7 include: Canada, France, Germany, Great Britain, Japan, Italy and United State of America.
The German envoy to Nigeria Michael Zenner, who delivered the invitation to the President-elect on behalf of Chancellor Angela Merkel, also confirmed that his country is interested in stepping up investment in the energy sector and also assisting in dealing with the insecurity.
He said: “I am here to congratulate The President elect, General Buhari on his election and handed over to him the letter from the German Chancellor inviting him to Germany.
“We have a very deep and intense relationship with Nigeria and there are lot of areas where we can deepen our relation and develop them further such as in the area of economy, energy among others.

“We have a bi-national commission with Nigeria and we are one of the countries with which Nigeria has this bi-national commission and it covers the whole range of political, economic and security areas. There are many areas in which we can move further and deepen our very close cooperation.”

Meanwhile, Canadian Ambassador to Nigeria, Perry John Calderwood, who also came to facilitate with General Buhari said Canada intends to also pursue collaboration with Nigeria in the area of strengthening Nigeria’s internal security.

The Ambassador said his country would like the incoming administration to explore more collaborative venture with Canada where investors from Canada can be encouraged to come and do business in the country.

According to him, Canada is offering to assist in improving the Nigeria’s  power sector, employment and security have been involved in the development and reform of the energy sector, bringing in technologies to fast track development of the sector.
