Buhari proposes N8.6trn 2018 budget, Saraki seeks proper implementation

President Muhammadu Buhari has proposed N8.6trn for the 2018 financial year.

Buhari made this known at the Joint Session of the National Assembly on Tuesday in Abuja, during the presentation of the 2018 Budget Proposal.

The President assured that the 2018 budget would be a consolidation of the earlier ones, noting that 2018 is expected to be a year of better outcomes, while describing the document as “Budget of Consolidation.”

Meanwhile, President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, has taken the Federal Government to task over the budget; saying how the budget is implemented will be the defining moment of the Buhari Administration.

He noted that the country needed to increase non-oil revenue, adding that infrastructure development must be a continuous priority of the administration.

“In the implementation, we must ensure that projects are not overpriced, while people must see a future for themselves in every corner of this country, ” he said.

He counselled the FG to eliminate what he described as “unnecessary waste” in the budget implementation. – PUNCH
