Buhari won’t be judged by ‘artificial’ insecurity – APC

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has said that President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration can not be judged based on social media comments and “artificial” security situation in the country.

The party, however said that a lot of educated young Nigerians were misled to believe that SARS was an evil organisation.

Speaking Thursday at a media briefing organised by the APC Professional Forum where Minister of Communications and Digital Economy was asked to talk on his achievements, APC national secretary, Sen. John James Akpanudoedehe, criticised opposition parties for allegedly hyping up security situation for “people to know that there is insecurity to bring down the government of APC and we will bring them to book insha Allah.”

Akpanudoedehe appealed to the Inspector General of Police to get back the spirit of effective policing.

“Ladies and gentlemen, President Muhammadu will be judged by security and other achievements but the issue of security is not going to be artificial security situation in Nigeria.

“I want to explain this very well. Those who are trying to take down President Muhammadu Buhari through the back door will not succeed – you are hyping up for people to know that there is insecurity to bring down the government of APC and we will bring them to book insha Allah.

“And I hope Nigerians and the media will pay attention to the minister not taking a biased position but by empirical facts from the Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy, because it seems that people are now paying attention to blackmail in the social media.

“For example, in the social media, a lot of educated young people were misled to believe that SARS was an evil organization inside the police and today we are having pockets of insecurity everywhere because the effects of SARS has really weakened the morale of the Police.

“There are some bad eggs in the Police but we must also understand that the police has a system within its organization, to try and dismiss and convict any misbehaved Police officer just as we have in the Army and the Navy.

“And we use this medium to plead to the police to reorganize itself, restrategise itself and reenergise itself and come to defend Nigerians not minding what happened.

“I want to use this medium to plead passionately to the new IG of Police to get back the spirit of effective policing.”

Earlier, national coordinator of the group, Comrade Akintayo Akeem, said his group’s intervention was to tell Nigerians those achievements recorded under the current administration.

“As an umbrella forum for professionals in various fields both in public and private sector who are members of our party, we have taken serious interventions and responsibilities to stand as guardians  of the core value  of the party and the necessities that gave birth to a APC  through  advisories to Government and APC  members who are political appointees as well conduct press conferences to advocate for a better management of conflict within the party and government.”
