Buhari’s 2nd term: APC chieftain calls for more inclusion of South-east

A chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the a National Ex-Officio of the party (Southeast), Hon. Nduka Anyanwu has reiterated the need for the South-east geo-political zone to be fully integrated into the incoming second term administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.

Hon Anyanwu, who was reacting to claims in some quaters that the people of South-east did not support President Buhari’s second term bid, said records are there to show that the region did better for APC when compared to 2015 general elections.

Speaking with newsmen in Abuja on Tuesday, Anyanwu noted that there was a significant increase in support for President Buhari and the APC led government in the zone in 2019 when compared to 2015, a turnout he attributed to President Buhari’s giant strides in the region in terms of many ongoing projects his government had approved for the region, many of which are nearing completion.

“In 2019, the APC support in the South-east received a massive boost, which saw a 400 percent increase in the votes the President got in the region in the election when compared to that of 2015. The zone from a position of zero APC Senators in 2015 produced 4 Senators for the APC and a number of Members of the House of Representatives”, he said.

Describing further the improvement in the acceptability of the party in the region, the APC national officer noted that out of the five states in the region, the APC got the constitutionally required 25 percent and more of the votes cast in Abia, Imo and Ebonyi states in the Presidential election – a feat, he said the party never achieved in 2015.

“In my home state, Abia, our party experienced a massive improvement in its support base which was clearly manifested in the number of votes returned for the President and other candidates of the party,”Anyanwu said.

Reacting to the zoning of offices in the incoming 9th National Assembly, Hon. Anyanwu expressed confidence that the party will find a common ground that will ensure that every geo-political zone in the region, including the South-east will be given a sense of belonging when the principal officers of the 9th Assembly emerge.

Anyanwu who appreciated what he described as the good works the Buhari administration has done in critical sectors of the economy, however urged for further inclusion of the people of South-east ahead of the inauguration of the President for second term, adding that the people of South-east, particularly the supporters of the APC in the region has shown that the region is ready to play a vital role in the next level, progressive agenda of the APC led administration.
