The Next Level Agenda Advocates Group, a CSO, has lauded the revolution going on in the nation’s Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sub-sector which has resulted to huge contribution to gross domestic product (GDP).

The group also paid tribute to President Muhammadu Buhari for appointing Dr Ali Isa Pantami, first as D-G NITDA in 2016 and now as Minister of Communications, and Mr Inuwa Kashifu Abdullahi, as his successor.

The group said it was confident that the later will continue with the revolution initiated by the former.

A statement tagged, Buhari and his two joker cards that will revolutionise the nation’s ICT sector, and signed by Solomon Semaka, executive director, Next Level Agenda Advocates Group, stated that the president has demonstrated uncommon love for youth by appointing two credible and competent young men to drive the IT sector.

“In just 45 days in office as Minister of Communications, Dr Pantami has pushed ICT contribution to GDP to surpass oil and gas, all SIM cards in circulation in Nigeria registered 35 per cent of broadband penetration recorded,  foundation for digital transformation being put in place.

“President Buhari’s administration has undoubtedly achieved for the country within four years what the nation had been unable to achieve in the last five decades after gaining her independence, particularly in the IT sector. This undeniable feat is enhanced via a deliberate effort by the president to keep to terms with realities of the time and as well as redeem his promises with the masses.

“Prominent of such glaring realities is the fact that the nation’s economy and her overall growth that is totally dependent on the reforms in the IT industry. It is also on record that Mr President made an unflinching commitment to an all inclusive government, which perhaps among many high flyers would feature prominently, the proper utilisation of intellectual capital and adequately domesticated the energy and blossoming ideas of the youth.”

The group further noted that under e-governance, championed by Pantami, so many leakages in government institutions have been blocked by IT and that has integrated even the revenue of the country.

“With the implementation of Treasury Single Account (TSA) and Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) and BVN, the federal government has been saving a minimum of N24.7billion monthly following the implementation of this IT software,” the group noted.
