Buhari’s plan to lift 100m Nigerians out of poverty fascinates APC chieftain

A chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC and the Director General of the Voice of Nigeria (VON) Osita Okechukwu, has expressed happiness over the re-proclamation by President Muhammadu Buhari to lift 100 million Nigerians out of poverty.

The President in his 60th independence anniversary message on Thursday repeated the plan.

But reacting to the President’s speech, Okechukwu said his fascination is that so many agitations among the youth and some other fault lines could be traced to poverty.

“Diamond is a precious metal and Nigeria is a precious country all we need as Mr President said is to work together to lift 100 million Nigerians out of poverty in the next ten years. One is happy that Mr President in his speech re-proclaimed his passion to lift 100 million Nigerians out of poverty.

“My fascination with the proclamation to lift 100 million Nigerians out of poverty is that the agitation among ethno-religious fault lines, gross unemployment and all manner of insecurity can be located to abject poverty in the land. Poverty and hunger are intertwined and an old English proverb says that a hungry man is an angry man. And it is also said that prosperity wipes off tiers and enmity.

“Therefore, my take away in the speech is Mr President’s further commitment to invest more in Buhari’s Agrarian Revolution, digital economy, medium and small scale industries as a sure way of gradually lifting people out of poverty.”
