Nigerian Army has inaugurated a newly constructed Out Patient Department, Officers’ Ward, Tuberculosis Laboratory and the renovated National Health Insurance Scheme Desk Office, 103 Battalion Aknaknauw, Enugu.
It also inaugurated the newly built Training Shade where troops will consolidate on training and retraining exercise.
Inaugurating the projects, the General Officer Commanding 82 Division Nigerian Army, Maj. Gen. Adamu Baba Abubakar commended the Chief of Army Staff for his continuous support which assisted in the immediate and successful completion of the projects.
He also commended the Commanding Officer (Rear), Maj. Maxwell Soro Maji, his officers and soldiers for the good work and assured them of his support at all times.
Abubakar also inspected the ongoing Nigerian Army Officers Wives Association (NAOWA) Kindergarten school project, where he donated the sum of One Million Naira to assist the association in the successful completion.
Abubakar who was conducted round an old wooden block that serves as Ante Natal and Immunisation Ward, where he expressed disappointment over the pace of work and directed that an alternative place be found for the staff to relocate to enable immediate demolition and construction of a new modern Ante Natal for the benefit of the soldiers and their families.
He directed the Commander 44 Engineer Brigade Brig. Gen. Mark Mamman to immediately start the project.
The occasion was attended by some Commanders, including 54 signal Brigade and 82 Division Supply and Transport, Brig. Gen. OW ALI and EA Anaryu, Commander Military Intelligence Brigade Col K Nwoko and DCOS G4 Col MK Ibrahim as well as members of the NAOWA Enugu State Chapter.
CAS charges personnel on professionalism
The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar has charged officers and men of the Nigerian Air Force to sustain the efforts of the present leadership at at repositioning the NAF into a highly professional and disciplined force for effective, efficient and timely employment of air power.
The CAS gave the charge while inaugurating a block of 6 x 3-bedroom flats for officers’ accommodation at the Sam Ethnan Air Force Base in Lagos.
The residential block was named after late Squadron Leader Promise Gbenekannu, a C-130H aircraft pilot, who died on board a NAF C-130H aircraft while on a logistics resupply mission to troops fighting
insurgency and terrorism in the North East.
Resented by the Air Officer Commanding Logistics Commanding (AOC LC), Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Ibrahim Yahaya, the Air chief said “it was appropriate for the Base to receive commensurate attention in the provision of facilities for the general well being of the personnel.”
“This was necessitated by the fact that majority of the families of personnel working in different operational areas across reside within the Base,” he said.
“We have embarked on the construction of new quarters as well as renovation and rehabilitation of dilapidated buildings to address the infrastructural decay of the past.
“Arrangements are in top gear to address many other areas of infrastructural deficit, including the renovation of more accommodation facilities as well as rehabilitation of roads and drainage systems in the Base.
“It is hoped that this would create an enabling environment and motivation for personnel to discharge their duties effectively and efficiently.”
Abubakar said the NAF would continue to do its best to discharge its statutory responsibility of defending the territorial integrity of the nation.
While charging the beneficiaries to properly maintain the accommodation, the CAS expressed appreciation to the Federal Government for the continued support to the military, especially the NAF.
Earlier in his welcome address, Senior Air Staff Officer (SASO) Logistics Command, AVM Ibukun Ojeyemi, said the project was part of the value additions that were continuously being made by the current NAF administration in line with the mantra of the CAS that “There is no finishing line in the race to add value to the society”.
He said three other projects were ongoing to further meet the growing accommodation need occasioned by the expansion of the Service in response to national security imperatives.
NAF spokesperson, Air Vice Marshal Olatokunbo Adesanya said morale of NAF personnel has been increasingly getting higher in recent times, as the perennial accommodation challenge within the NAF gets gradually resolved due to timely provision of funds by the Federal Government Administration and the focused of the NAF leadership.
