BUK’s medicine sciences dept hunts for mosquito species in Jigawa

The Faculty of Medicine of the Bayero University, Kano (BUK) has begun the search for different species of mosquitoes in Jigawa state for research purposes.

Leader of the team of   experts from the university, Dr. Abdul Sanu Yayo, who paid a courtesy visit  to the chairman of Kirikasamma local  government of Jigawa state, AlhajI  Mahamouda Mattafari, said they were in the area  to catch various  species  of mosquitoes for microbiology tests in order to identify their eggs and types for laboratory investigation.

Responding, the chairman of the Council, Alhaji Mahmouda Mattafari, assured that the Council was ready to give maximum support and cooperation to see to the eradication of malaria.
He said the local government has abundant rivers and Kachalla (typha grass) surrounded towns and villages of the area.
The chairman hailed BUK for assessing the types of mosquitoes in the area for microbiology tests and expressed optimism that their findings would be of help to people of the area, Jigawa state and the country in general.
