Bulls return as equity market gains N73bn

Domestic equities on Wednesday closed in a positive trend gaining N73 billion, despite low volume of transactions and profit taking activities witnessed in the market during the day.

Market capitalisation of listed equities increased by 0.27 per cent to N26.682 trillion from N26.609 trillion reported the previous day.

The NGX All Share Index also appreciated by 134.50 basis points to 48988.04 points from 48853.54 points traded on Tuesday.

Volume of activities went down by 45.98 per cent or 74.938 million as Investors traded 88.039 million shares valued at N1.675 billion in 2832 deals against 162.977 million shares valued at N3.874 billion exchanged hands the previous day in 3286 deals.

An analysis of the investment showed that Redstarex led gainers table during the day, increasing by 9.71 per cent to N2.26, Chams Plc followed with a gain of 9.52 per cent to N0.23, Scoa Plc added 8.97 per cent to N0.85, Learn Africa gained 8.84 per cent to N1.97, Lasaco Insurance increased by 7.14 per cent to N0.90.

On the contrary, Prestige Insurance topped losers chart during the day declining 8.70 per cent to N0.42, Multiverse trailed with a drop of 8.51 per cent to N3.98, Linkage Assurance dipped by 6.98 per cent to N0.40, Eterna Plc down by 5.75 per cent to N6.07, Dangote Sugar declined by 5.56 per cent to N15.30.

The result further showed that GTCO Plc was the toast of investors during the day, exchanging 10.213 million shares valued at N213.646 million, Zenith Bank followed with account of 9.787 million shares cost N225.271 million, Jaiz Bank traded 7.910 million shares valued at N7.022 million, Sterling Bank sold a total of 5.167 million shares cost N7.089, United Capital exchanged 4.470 million shares worth N1.570 million.
