Yobe: Buni, deputy receive certificates of return, promise to make life meaningful

The Yobe state governor-elect, Hon Mai Mala Buni, his deputy Idi Barde Gubana and 24 Members-elect, into the State House of Assembly have received certificates of return from Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Presenting the certificates on Thursday at the INEC headquarters in Damaturu, the INEC National Commissioner, representing Bauchi, Gombe and Yobe states, Alhaji Baba Shettima Arfo, charged them to be accountable and deliver dividends of democracy to all nooks and crannies of the state.

“Ensure that you spread the dividend of democracy to all nooks and crannies of Yobe state, while putting in mind that you would be accountable for your action and inactions throughout your tenure in office,” he added.

In his response, the governor-elect, Mai Mala Buni, said his
government would be all inclusive, promising that they would justify the confidence reposed on them.

He further commended the candidate of other parties, “especially the gubernatorial candidate of Peoples Democratic Party PDP, Ambassador Iliya Umar Damagum, who after putting a good fight conceded defeat and
congratulated him”.

Buni, further said, “the role played by the security agencies in
making sure that elections hold in the whole of the state calls for commendation noting that there were no incidences of violence throughout the electioneering period”.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) Ahmad Makama, said the election that brought elected members into
power was smooth and peaceful, calling on them to reciprocate the
electorate mandates by fulfilling their campaign promises.

The presentation was witnessed by the Governor Ibrahim Geidam represented by his Deputy, Abubakar D. Aliyu, top government officials, political parties, and security agencies among others.
