Yobe state governor Mai Mala Buni on Thursday flagged off the construction of 54km Ngalda-Mutai road project at Ngalda town of Fika local government area of the state.

Governor Buni recalled that on December 2020, he flagged off the construction of phase 1 of the Gujba/Ngalda road covering Gujba-Mutai being executed through the Multi Sectoral Crises Recovery Projects (MCRP).

He noted that the construction Phase 2 of the project was executed by the North-East Development Commission (NEDC).

“The construction of this road would obviously open up the rich agriculturally endowed communities, and facilitate easy movement of people, goods and services to stimulate more agricultural, commercial and economic activities in the benefitting communities.

“This project is therefore a commendable drive by the North-East Development Commission which conforms to our development pursuit in the State.Such complementary interventions would certainly go a long way in impacting positively on the lives of our people,” Buni said.

He appreciated the Commission for the construction of the 500 mass housing units across the state, distribution of relief materials to victims of insurgency and disasters; training on smartphone repairs and computer graphics design and the distribution of starter packs and startup capital to over 330 youth among others.

Earlier in his remarks, the Managing Director of NEDC, Mohammed Alkali, said the project was one of the significant intervention that commission is executing as part of it mandate towards recovery, reconstruction, stabilisation, expansion renewal and sustainable development in the North-east region.
