Buni-led national C’taker C’ittee accused of pursuing hidden agenda

The Association of Former Elected Local Government Chairmen in Nigeria has accused the All Progressive Congress (APC) national caretaker committee of doing the opposite instead of uniting the party in states where there is wrangling.

The association at a press conference in Sokoto alleged that the committee is haboring a hidden agenda.

The association cited the case of Edo state as an example where it allegedly accused the care taker committee connivance with opposition party to defeat the APC candidate Pastor Ize Iyamu.

The national president of the association, Alhaji Ibrahim Dasuki Haske said the association had noted with dismay that the leaders were planning to elongate their six months mandate purposely to achieve their hidden agenda.

He said as part of his sit-tight and hidden motives, Mai Buni committee came up with idea of registration of new members purposely to extend their tenure beyond December 2020.

He advised the caretaker committee to drop idea of registration of new members because according to him, it was not in their mandate and terms of reference.

“This is not the right time to embark on new registration at all except there’s a hidden agenda.

“Almost all the states in the far north are currently under security siege , so how is the committee  planning to conduct registration exercise in those areas” he queried.

It advised the committee to forthwith suspend its plan to dissolve all the existing party structures at states and local levels assured that any attempt to do so would be resisted.

The association also advised the caretaker committee to release out timetable for the conduct of the national convention without further delay.

It, however, advised President Mohammed Buhari to be wary of fifth columnists and deceitful leaders who might want to advise him wrongly on the state affairs of the party.
