Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe state has said his government will ensure all the on-going projects in state are completed on time to improve the living standards of the citizenry.
Buni, made the pledge on Sunday when he inspected the ongoing Yobe International Cargo airport under construction in Damaturu.
He said, “I am satisfied with the level of work here. This government is of consolidation; therefore we will ensure that all ongoing projects are completed as at when due and according to the specification of bill of quantities to upgrade the living standard of our people”.
The governor said he had directed all contractors handling projects in the states to expedite action in completing them on time.
Briefing the governor earlier, the Permanent Secretary of Ministry of
Works and Transport, Abdullahi Mohammed Jawa, said the initial contract fee was N11.3b and was later reviewed to N21.7 to accommodate observations raised by Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and other relevant airport authorities to increase runway length among others.
“The runway has been increased from 3.1km to 4.1km, the Apron was changed to reinforce concrete from asphaltic concrete, control tower from 2.4m width to 3.6m width. Others were fire station parking bay increased from 2 No.s to 4Nos., maintenance of building, access road among others.
Jawa, further said the upgrade of the airport was to accommodate the world heaviest Cargo Aircraft the AN 124 Russian Freighter, saying Yobe Cargo Airport if completed will be one of the airports in the country that has the longest runway.
“The total payments made to date was 61.14 per cent while the total work executed stood at 58.52 per cent with control tower 80 per cent, runway 65 per cent while access road 52.6 per cent among others.”
