Buni’s statement misquoted at APC youth conference – Spokesman

Director General, Press and Media Affairs to Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe state, Mamman Mohammed, has debunked some misrepresentations in the media regarding his principal’s speech at the Progressives Youth Conference held at the International Conference Center, Abuja on Monday.

A national daily (not Blueprint) had claimed that the APC chairman said “retrogressive elements with evil intentions are causing confusion in the party,” contrary to the what he (Buni) said.

But clarifying the statement through a released he signed on Tuesday, Mohammed said the reporter misrepresented the position of the chairman, adding that at no time throughout his speech his boss said anyone is causing confusion in the party or disuniting the party.

“The attention of the Chairman Caretaker Extraordinary Planning Committee and Yobe state Governor, Hon. Mai Mala Buni, has been drawn to a misrepresentation of his statement issued at the Progressives Youth Conference held at the International Conference Center, Abuja on Monday 21st June, 2021.

“What the chairman said was a call on the youth to be wary of retrogressive elements causing confusion and hate, threatening the corporate unity of the country and not the party.

“The chairman’s statement reads ‘Ladies and gentlemen, as the theme of the conference suggests, the decision for the future of this party and country cannot be at any other time better than now when the corporate unity and security in the country are being challenged.

‘You should therefore exploit all available opportunities to assiduously work towards promoting National unity, democracy and dialogue. I assure you the support of the party in investing in the unity and future of Nigeria.

‘As the most energetic segment of the population, retrogressive elements with evil interests in causing confusion, creating and fanning hate and disunity will always rely on you to achieve such negative and unpatriotic tendencies and to destroy your future. You must resist them. You should never allow yourselves to be
used as tools in the hands of these treacherous elements.’

The statement said the clarification became necessary because “the APC today under the leadership of Hon. Mai Mala Buni, enjoys a strong bond of unity and cohesion without any threat as suggested by the figment of the author’s imagination.”
