Buratai pledges support for UNDP in the North-east

The Chief of Army Staff Lt. Gen. Tukur Yusuf Buratai has promised to support the United Nations Development Programmes   (UNDP) initiatives geared toward stabilizing the lives of residents of the North-east.

Buratai stated this Monday, when UNPP’s Resident Representative Designate to Nigeria Dr Mohammed Yabaya paid him a courtesy call at Army headquarters Abuja.

He assures that the Army would provide adequate security for UNDP’s personal across the country especially the North-east in the course of implementing the Programme.

He said, “Nigerian Army would support UNDP and other Non-Governmental Organisations (NGO’s) in the area of providing an enabling environment for peace and security to enable them carry out their programmes successfully”.  

On his part, Dr Yabaya said he was at the Army headquarters to introduce UNDP’s stabilization programme to Buratai and sought Nigerian Army support and collaboration in the implementation of the plan.

He said the programme is aimed that establishment of  livelihood of those who are dislodged as a result of terrorism or insurgency, providing infrastructure, re-establishing rule of law, reconstructing town and villages better than it was before the emergence of Boko Haram.

“I am here to partner the Nigerian Army to assist and ensure that this this done,” he said.

He further draws the attention of critical stakeholders to the need to reconstruct the North-east saying that “speed is of essence.”
