Buratai receives ‘Excellence’ award from Ghana

Association of African Journalists and Broadcasters (AAJB), Accra, Ghana, has conferred an “Award of Excellence” on the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai, for his “immense contributions to sustainable peace in Nigeria and Africa.
” Speaking at the Pan African Distinguished Achievers Award ceremony, AAJB Deputy Country Coordinator, Nigeria, Baba Ransome Adamu, said the award was informed due to the ability of the army chief to bring insurgency in the Northeast under control within the shortest possible time, as well as his strategic cooperation with other African nations in the fight against insurgency.
In his remarks, the COAS who was represented by the Chief of Civil-Military Relations (CCMA), Maj.-Gen. Nuhu Angbazo, cautioned African journalists to exercise more caution in the use of social media platforms, especially on issues bothering security.
Buratai urged them to always quote facts in the manner which would discourage hate, extremism and violence while promoting a united fight against all kinds of criminalities, including insurgency.
He charged journalists to always contribute objectively and constructively in their reportage in the fight against terrorism.
“The security of Africa is a collective responsibility.
I assure you that the activities of terrorists, which have international affiliation, will be brought to an end as quickly as possible,” he said.
The COAS urged journalists in Africa to continue to partner and cooperate with security agencies despite the daunting challenges in order to remain steadfast in the collective aspirations to keep Africa safe.
