Bwari crisis: Bello sues for peace

 

In continuation of the peace building initiative in Bwari area council, the FCT Administration at the weekend held a third in the series of meetings with the Bwari area council and the traders’ association of the burnt Bwari market.
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Malam Muhammad Musa Bello, during the meeting called on Bwari community in the Council to shun acts that could disrupt the peace and normalcy that had returned to the area.
Bello, who was represented by the Mandate Secretary, Area Council Secretariat, Adamu Abubakar Bappah, stated that “there is nothing anybody could cherish so much like peace,” adding that “residents must ensure that peace continues to reign in the interest of the Bwari community in particular and the Federal Capital Territory in general.”
According to him, “there is nothing like peace and there is nothing that anybody could cherish so much like peace; so, let’s ensure that this peace continues and let’s practicalise it to the letter.
“It is not enough for people to make lofty speeches about peace, but urged them to put these words into practice in the interest of the area,” he said.
He also submitted that issues of whether the affected traders would be relocated to the market or given some discounts were being looked into, and that “whatever is agreed with the chairman of the Council will be communicated” to them.
In his remarks, the chairman, Bwari area council, Musa Dikko, appreciated the Minister for convening the meetings aimed at restoring peace in the area.
He also commended the Sarkin Bwari, Alhaji Awwal Musa Ija Koro, as well as the Special Assistant to the FCT Minister on community relations, Hon. Isa Dara, for the various roles they played in containing the crisis.
According to him, Administration will continue to ensure that justice is done in every situation in the area to ensure that peace is maintained.
Also speaking, the Esu Bwari, Mr. Ibrahim Yaro, commended the security agencies for “playing their roles so wonderfully.”
He appealed to the Minister to come to the aide of the affected traders to ameliorate their sufferings.
