By-election: Dickson picks PDP ticket for Bayelsa West

The immediate past fomer Governor of Bayelsa state, Henry Seriake Dickson, has said that zoning arrangement has come to stay in Bayelsa West senatorial district, and that it was the turn of Sagbama to produce the next Senator.

Dickson on Saturday clinched automatic nomination of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for Bayelsa West Senatorial District by-election.

The returning officer, Barr Nicholas Obhiseh, announced Dickson as the validly nominated candidate for the senatorial contest having polled 334 out of 338 accredited delegates with four invalid votes.

The members of the PDP from the Sagbama and Ekeremor’s decided not to pick the party’s nomination form as a mark of honour to the former governor who enjoys unprecedented acceptability and popularity in the area.

Dickson vowed to resist every attempt by the opposition to use security men to rig the forthcoming bye-election in the state.

Referring to the flagbearer of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Peremobowei Ebebi, who is a former governor of Bayelsa state, Dickson said, “Now he thinks they have come to entice him, telling him that soldiers will come and write results, will you allow that to happen? They will be disappointed again.”

Dickson however, commended the people for their unflinching dedication, loyalty, support and prayers throughout his eight years as governor and for finding him worthy of another serious mission.

The former governor also commended the party supporters from the senatorial district for the honour given him to have the party’s ticket in spite of several top political leaders who are qualified for the contest.

Dickson called on the people of Ekeremor and Sagbama, the two local government areas that make up the senatorial district, to be resolute in defence òf the long standing power-sharing agreement binding the area.
