CAF CL: Simba out to stun Al Ahly

Simba will battle with Al Ahly in the 2018-19 Caf Champions League group D match at the National Stadium in Tanzania on Tuesday.

Kick-off is at 3pm CAT.

The Tanzanian giants suffered their second defeat in group D when they lost 5-0 to Al Ahly away on matchday three earlier this month

The defeat left Simba third on the group standings – a point behind second-placed AS Vita Club of Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

Simba coach Patrick Aussems is confident that his side can defeat record-eight time Champions League winners Al Ahly at home.

“We knew in advance that getting three points away at AS Vita and Al Ahly would be very difficult. That is why I previously insisted that we need to get all nine points from three home matches,” Aussems said on All Africa.

“We did it with JS Saoura and we have to repeat that against Al Ahly and AS Vita.”

Meanwhile, Egyptian football powerhouse Al Ahly recorded their second victory in the group stage when they thumped Simba at home.

The victory took Al Ahly to the top the of group D standings – three points ahead of second-placed Vita Club.

Al Ahly coach Martin Lasarte has urged his charges to remain focused ahead of their last three games in the group stage.

“We still have many matches in the tournament. The competition isn’t over yet,” Lasarte said on Ahram Online.

“The victory over Simba is very important, but we just played three matches until now and the competition is still ongoing.”
