Nigeria’s sole representatives on the continent, Rivers United FC of Port Harcourt, will battle ASEC Mimosas of Cote d’Ivoire, Motema Pembe from Congo DR and Diables Noir from Congo in Group B of the CAF Confederation Cup group stage.
The top two teams will qualify for the knockout rounds of the tournament.
The draw was conducted Monday morning at the CAF headquarters in Cairo, Egypt the continental football governing body.
Group A has the likes of St. Eloi Lupopo, Al Akhder, Marumo Gallants and USM Alger of Algeria.
Group C has AS FAR Rabat of Morocco, Future FC, Asko de Kara and Pyramids.
While Group D includes AS Real Bamako of Mali, Yanga SC, US Monastir of Tunisia and TP Mazembe of Zambia.
The Pride of Rivers reached the group stage of the competition after they defeated Al Nasr of Libya in the playoffs round.
NPFL champions Rivers United beat the Libyan side after they drew 1-1 with Al Nasr in Tripoli to go through 6-1 on aggregate having won the first leg in Nigeria 6-0.
Angola’s Flavio Amado, Tunisians Medji Traoui and Ayman Mathlouthi, Zambia’s Christopher Katongo and Morocco’s Ghizlane Chebbak are the players invited.
The 2022–23 CAF Confederation Cup group stage will begin on 12 February and will end on 2 April 2023.
No Nigerian club have won this competition since it was founded in 2004.
