Call for INEC chairman’s resignation laughable, unpatriotic- Ohanaeze youth

Call for the National Chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, to resign has been described as laughable and unpatriotic.

The Ohanaeze Youths Movement, which stated this on Tuesday in a statement, alleged the camp of the Imo state Governor, Hope Uzodinma, was behind the call by a faction of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide on the INEC Chairman to reign.

The Ohanaeze Youths, in a statement by its Secretary General, Nwada Amaka, argued that Ikechukwu Izigusoro who issued the statement belonged to a faction of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo whose members are pro-Uzodinma.

It argued that the factional Ohanaeze Ndigbo took the unpopular stand because of the refusal of the INEC chairman to cover, what is described as “the Omuma magic.”

The statement read: “We have read with disgust a statement credited to a faction of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo loyal to Governor Hope Uzodinma calling for the resignation of the INEC Chairman.

“The call is not only laughable but also unpatriotic considering the efforts the commission, under the leadership of its current chairman, has put in place to ensure the success of the 2023 general elections.

“We are aware that the faction that made that inglorious call is pro-Uzodinma. The governor picks the bill of these members of a faction of Ohanaeze.

“We therefore call on Prof Yakubu to ignore the nonsensical call and concentrate on his job and deliver credible elections come 2023.”
