CAN appeals for calm over Easter ‘accidental’ deaths in Gombe

The North-east Christians Association of Nigeria Chairman, Dr. Abare Kala, has appealed to Christian community not to take laws into their hands following the killing of 9 Boys Brigade members who were matching as part of activities to mark Easter.

Dr. Kala who made the call while speaking with Journalists at Gombe specialist Hospital, said he was inform about the sad event on Sunday 11:30 Pm.

He said: “We are aware two wrongs cannot make a right, so we are appealing to the Christians community to be calm, while the police address the issues.

“For now we are trying to calm the situation by appealing to Christians in the state to exercise patience and allow the authorities to take necessary action on the matter,” Dr. Abare Kala said.

When contacted, Public Relation Officer, Gombe state Police Command, SP Mary Malum confirmed that 10 persons were killed in the event that occurred on Sunday 11:30 pm.

She said 8 Boys Brigade members, and a Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corp personnel and his police friend who drove the Honda Car that ran into the procession were killed while 30 other sustained various degree of injuries.
