Ahead of this year’s FIFA U-20 Women World Cup slated for Canada between August 5 and 24, head coach of Nigeria’s Falconets, Peter Dedevbo, has assured of his readiness to take only players who can match any participating team to the tournament.
Nigeria and Ghana are the two African countries expected to square up with other 13 countries when the 7th edition of the biannual tournament gets underway later in the year.
At the end of the qualification process, Nigeria qualified with the highest goals margin without conceiving any goal in their last game qualifier game against South Africa.
Dedevbo who spoke exclusively to Blueprint Sport on Tuesday in Abuja expressed confidence that his wards would do a lot more to prove themselves at the forthcoming competition.
He said: “I have submitted my proposal and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is working on it. Personally, I want the team to resume camping in April to enable us have enough time to prepare and embark on training tours. It is left for the federation to choose where we can camp.
“Before we resume camping, I expect five new players to join the team, while I will be expecting at least two or three players that will do well during the forthcoming U-17 Women World Cup. The assurance I am giving Nigerians is that we are going to parade a dreaded team in Canada.
It would be recalled that the Falconets led by head coach Edwin Okon got to the semi-final stage of 2012 U-20 Women World Cup hosted in Japan.
