Catholic Knights meet on poverty, killings

The Catholic Supreme Order of the Knight of Saint Mulumba, Nigeria, on Friday said the 41st annual convention would deliberate on insecurity, killings of citizens and poverty in the country.

Briefing journalists in Asaba, Delta state, the Worthy Supreme Knight, Sir Diamond Ovueraye, said the almost unending security problems accentuated by insurgency in the North-east, the herders, farmers’ clashes and killing of Nigerians.

He said killing and kidnapping of persons in virtually all parts of the country had almost become the norm.

“Of course, this is unacceptable and at various times, the Order as a corporate body in Nigeria with its Christo-centric ideals has come out boldly and decisively to condemn the poor management of these crises by the federal government.

We have to do this in addition to our traditional roles of defending the Catholic faith, Catholic actions, purveyors of charity and providing succour to the poor,” he said.
