Police in Imo state have confi rmed the kidnap and subsequent murder of a Catholic Priest, Reverend Fr. Cyriacus Onunkwo.
Th e cleric was allegedly kidnapped from his vehicle in Orlu town in Orlu local government area on Friday morning by gunmen.
Commissioner of Police in charge of Imo state, CP Chris Ezike, told journalists in Owerri that following a manhunt, a body was discovered in a bush in Omuma Village in Orlu East local government area the next day.
He said the corpse has been positively identifi ed as that of Fr Onunkwo, while investigations are still on-going to unveil his killers.
Police source said the late cleric’s car was discovered intact, with nothing removed from it, just as his body was found not to bear any gunshot or stab wounds, leading to speculations that he may have been strangled.
No arrests have so far been made, however, CP Ezike said that the police were still working to fi nd the abductors of the priest.
