The Community Base Health Insurance Scheme (CBHIS) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has set up a Board of Trustee (BoT) and Management Committee in Kwali area council to manage and coordinate the affairs of the health insurance scheme in the council.
The BoT members were drawn from the 50 communities in the area, after the communities sent two representatives each to the meeting organised by the Coordinator of CBHIS in FCT, Dr Grace Aganaba.
Aganaba said the steps taken by CBHIS to take the health insurance scheme to the grassroots were in line with the presidential mandate that by 2015 every Nigerian should be carrying an insurance card to give him/her access to health.
She said: “50 communities in Kwali are to enjoy this community based health insurance scheme, and where there is no clinic, the Malafia mobile truck is already on the gear and by the 1st of March, this year, they will start marching into these communities until we give them health centres. So, many health centres will be renovated and many help is coming from Shell, NHIS, PFIB, USIAD and others.
“But one assurance we want is the corporation of the communities to get this through. That is why we are selecting few committee people among the communities to take charge of the management of the programme.”
She said the BoT members from all the area councils would be trained on what the scheme was all about.
Chairman, Kwali area council, Mr. Ibrahim Daniel, commended the management of CBHIS for the kind gesture in improving the health status of the people.
He called on natives of the 50 communities to contribute to the health programme by co-operating with the government to make the community-based health insurance a success.
