CBN, MAAN distribute inputs to 1,738 Benue maize farmers

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) in conjunction with Maize Farmers Association of Nigeria (MAAN) Tuesday flagged off distribution of farm inputs to farmers.

Speaking at the occasion which took place at the IBB Square, Makurdi, representative of the CBN Branch Controller, Mrs. Grace Jonah, said the inputs were loans and not grants.

She stated that the inputs would be given to only 1,738 farmers whose biometrics were captured.

She said the gesture by the federal government through the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to distribute the input, was to encourage farmers who have interest but may not have the economic strength to engage in farming.

Also the national treasurer MAAN, Mr. Joel Batur, said the farmers would be given 20kg of maize, fertilisers and other farm inputs.

Batur encouraged them to make judicious use of the items in order to have bountiful harvest.

“The inputs are going to be given to only registered members of our association.

“I urge you to pay back the loans you have collected. They are not grants. The loans are given at the interest rate of 5 per cent,” he said.
