CDD charge stakeholders against fake news

Centre for Democracy and Development has urged Nigerians to ensure information is verified before dissemination.

The project lead of the CDD Austin Aigbe stated this while interacting with stakeholders on the theme: Post-election, debriefing and misinformation in yenagoa.

He said that fake news was used as instrument of war in the last governorship election in Bayelsa state.

“Fake news gain access in Twitter and Facebook more than conventional media, but we should authenticate information before sharing on social media.

“If you share anything on social media it means you agree with it. We should also know when we are misinforming or misinforming the people,” he said.

Aigbe maintain that CDD will continue to collaborate with media and other stakeholders to maintain fact-check on issues of elections before, during and after elections.

Also speaking the director of National Orentation Agency Ide Oduaswkpar said the problem of election always emanate from politicians.

He noted that politicians are ready to spend money to get what they want but the last election people went beyond taking money and voted for change.
