CEHRD organizes training for small businesses in Bayelsa

Centre for Environmental Human Rights Development has identified key areas of business success and ideas in preparing and implementing good business plans.

Speaking in Yenagoa during the entrepreneurship training organized by the group in conjunction with the Embassy of Netherlands,  Styvn Obodoekwe, Programme Director of CEHRD disclosed that the training was part of a human rights project of CEHRD aimed at empowering women to begin to assert their socio-cultural and economic rights.

He stated that the entrepreneurship training was mainstreamed in the project to empower women economically to enable them have the economic strength required to pursue political power.

He urged the participants, who were mainly peasant farmers, artisans and petty traders drawn from the Women in Governance Network, (WIGN), to take the training serious, saying that there may be opportunities for mentoring them to ensure they succeed as entrepreneurs.

 Also speaking, an entrepreneurship development expert, Franklin Nelson stated that small businesses can grow to become big and successful if these tips are adhered to strictly.

He however stated that “Failure to adhere to the tips is easy way for business collapse.”

He continuing he said: “While business idea gives the prospective investor a clear idea of the type of business to carry out, business plan provides strategic direction and guide on how to run the business profitably.”

One of the participants, Mary Ogbonu thanked CEHRD and the facilitators for organizing the training saying that the training came at a right time.

 She said “The training is a good one. It is commendable; I learnt a lot of things that will help my small business to grow. I appreciate the efforts of the organizers of the training.”

 Esther Yaboh another participant urged CEHRD to make the training a regular one, rather than a one off training.
