Census: NPC begins enumeration area demarcation in Imo

The National Population Commission (NPC) has commenced the enumeration of houses in Imo state in preparation for the forthcoming population census.

Addressing  Mbaitoli LGA stakeholders’ meeting at the council headquarters, Nworieubi Monday, the Federal Commissioner for Imo state, Prof Uba Nnabue told them to cooperate with his staff and make them comfortable to enable them deliver what they came for.

He specifically urged traditional rulers of various autonomous communities and their presidents general to show their leadership qualities and should not shy away from such responsibilities, adding that with a successful Enumeration Area Demarcation, it would be difficult to have irregularities when the actual census commences.

Also speaking, the Imo state coordinator of the exercise, Abubakar Saidu made it clear that the commission would be making use of the number of existing wards, saying that the essence of the current exercise was that the federal government would base their allocations or resources on the data gotten.

Saidu made it clear that the NPC team were not in Imo to settle disputes but requested that  experienced tour guides  should be engaged to know the boundaries of all communities i.e. where they start and end.

In his own remarks, the chairman of presidents general in the LGA, Chief Vincon Uwakwe Uwandu, assured the visitors that as a peaceful local government area, the NPC officials would be given the best hospitality, that  that there would not be any problem of boundary demarcation as the LGA was intact.
